Behaviour

This section is about coping with different aspects of our child's behaviour.

On Coping with Difficult Behaviour parents share their own experiences of dealing with their children's difficult or antisocial behaviour. We hope that parents may take some comfort from finding other people who are coping with the same situation.

Descriptive Praise is an article describing this alternative type of praise and the powerful effect it can have on our relationships with our children.

What's so Terrible About Being Two! is an article written by Gary Direnfield, parent and child-behaviour expert explaining the normal child development that lies behind the 'terrible twos'!

Gary has also written a second article sharing his experience and advice for dealing with tantrums.

Getting Children to be Helpful is an article written by Cassandra Jardine about the advice given to her that's worked with her five children.

They Don't Listen To Me! looks at techniques for tackling the common problem of "Selective Hearing." Many of you will recognise the symptoms, you can shout at your child(ren) to tidy up their toys and it's as if they have cotton in their ears, but if you whisper that you'll take them out for ice cream, their hearing becomes incredibly sharp!

Separation anxiety offers ideas for coping with separation anxiety and ways to help your child(ren) become more independent.

Sleeptime Wars is one mum's humourous account of the daily battle at afternoon naptime!

Not naughty, but normal

This free leaflet, published by the NSPCC, offers advice on bringing up toddlers, with a focus on how challenging behaviour is a normal expression of their changing needs as they develop
