We are not experts in first aid, this is just a guide from us to assist you, if you want to learn more about First Aid for Children you should contact your local health service and find out what courses are available in your area.

With hot weather comes water, and therefore an increased risk of drowning. It is terrifying to think that a child can drown in a few centimetres of water... but with careful monitoring they can still have fun and be safe.

Here are some tips on how to minimise the risk

  • When bathing your baby or toddler never leave them along for any reason, even if an older brother or sister is being bathed at the same time.
  • bath water must be shallow in depth
  • all children should be supervised while swimming, never let your child swim along. Stay with your child if they are playing near or in a paddling pool
  • don't let your child stray alone near outdoor water, such as ponds, canals, lakes or rivers and cover or fence in garden ponds.
