Making Your Own Baby Food

Introducing solid foods to your baby is an exciting, much photographed milestone in your baby's first year. But it can also be an anxious time for many parents, unsure about just when to give their little ones their very first taste of solid food - and which foods to introduce at each stage.

Gone are the days when babies were introduced to "real food" as early as 6 weeks of age - many leading organisations, including UNICEF and the World Health Organisation, now agree that babies receive adequate nutrition from formula or breast milk for the first 6 months of life. Research has shown that introducing solids earlier than this can lead to problems such as obesity and an increased risk of food allergy.

Providing the best start possible - making your own baby food

With rates of obesity at an all-time high in many western countries, experts are now focussing on the source of many long-term weight issues - poor nutrition in infancy.

Getting your baby off to a healthy start doesn't just benefit him now... it will continue to do so in years to come.

By preparing a wide variety of nutritious foods for your little one, you will be providing the nutrients he needs for healthy growth and development. You will also be moulding his palate to enjoy natural and wholesome ingredients... many children brought up on home-prepared foods will often refuse less healthy, commercially prepared foods later on!

Making your own baby food is one of the most rewarding things you can do as a parent. To watch your child enjoying - and thriving on - healthy meals that you have prepared yourself is immensely gratifying.

Your one-stop resource for solid feeding guidelines and great recipes

The Homemade Baby Food Recipes website contains ALL the information you need to provide good nutrition to your baby throughout his first year. But our website provides more than just tips for mashing bananas and making cereal... we believe that babies have taste buds, too! So, in addition to simple, single-ingredient first food recipes, you will find imaginative recipes incorporating a range of tasty ingredients - including herbs, spices... and even garlic!

Yes, garlic - many babies adore foods containing it, which is unsurprising when you learn that breastfeeding infants have been found to nurse BETTER when Mum has been eating garlic!

Recipes on our site are divided into three categories:

  • first foods
  • 6-9 months
  • 10-12 months
But we offer a great deal more than recipes alone and you will also find information on a wide range of related topics including:

Food allergies
Infant constipation
Diarrhea - foods that help and foods to avoid
Solids and reflux
The link between solids and eczema
Travelling with baby food
Vitamin supplementation

... and lots more!
