Father's Day is on Sunday 18th June 2006. Many may say it is just another gimmick to get cards sold, but I believe that you can look beyond that.

Father's Day to me is about celebrating the fact that you are a dad, father, or grandfather. Your children value you in their lives, and it is a nice time to say you love them.

How many of us forget to say we care and love someone and a day like this, especially for children can provide that opportunity. You don't have to buy a present or card, just make it special by being together.

Perhaps you have just become a dad and suddenly find you can celebrate this day. I know with my own husband that I got him his first Father's Day card from James and it made his day.

Let me know how you will be celebrating or not. Perhaps you have strong views against Father's Day or you might be one of many that love an opportunity to express yourselves.

Maybe Father's Day is another commercial event, but I will still be telling my Dad I love him and encouraging my children to express this to their Dad.

Your Nominations for "Best Dad"

I am 6 years old and I want to tell you why my Dad is the BEST father in the whole wide world! He plays games with me everyday even if he is too tired. He does not miss any of my functions in school and always tells me that I have done very well. I love my dad very much. I have so much of fun with my dad. He watches all the movies that I like with me. We try and go on little walking adventures during the weekend to collect something for my scrapbook. I am learning the piano and after I learn a new song, I like to teach him too. I like it when I am his teacher and he is my student! When I am sad he tells me nice things and makes me laugh. He is the best Dad ever!

My Daddy is very special to me because when I was 5 days old he resuscitated me as I stopped breathing and he looked after Mummy and me when I was in hospital. He loves to bath me every night as we splash around with my toys and I love sitting on his knee when he reads me a story at bedtime. We go for lots of walks and we have lovely little conversations in our own language along the way! He's the bestest Daddy in the world and I love him very much - Samuel aged 5 months

I had my first child Erin just 3 months ago and Tony will be getting his first Father's Day card and gift from her. It's as much a chance to remind him how much she loves him as for me to show him how much I appreciate all he's done as her Dad. Since my pregnancy I've not regained feeling properly in my hands and he's been my rock, doing all those things with a baby that require a monster grip like the bathing. Not to mention all the games and loving cuddles he gives her after a hard days work to make up for those I can't give her as easily in the day. He gets that gorgeous gummy smile all the time to show she loves every minute with him so I've taken a photo of that smile and framed it in a mouse mat saying 'I love my Daddy' so that he'll have a reminder of it while he's at work, something to make him smile any time he's having a bad day. It's also a chance for us to say thankyou to my own Dad for all his help with this and babysitting duties when it's been too much so he's got a card from Erin too and we found an 'I'm a groovy Grandad' mug on a children's cancer charity's web site so he can have his first gift from his first grandaughter. Erin and I would be lost without the 'Dad's' in our lives.

and when he's home mummy works too
then daddy feeds & bath's us, and reads us a story or two.
