Pets are particularly vulnerable on nights like Halloween. They are unable to tell you what is worrying them, and with the doorbell going every few minutes it can be quite stressful for pets.

We know that we are primarly a parenting site, but children (and adults) need to be made aware of how to treat pets with sympathy and compassion at this exciting time.

• As much as your pet may beg for some of your treats, always remember that chocolate is deadly to them in any amount
• Ensure the treat wrappers are disposed of carefully, pets might grab them if dropped on the floor
• Dogs can have lethal tails - be careful if you have lighted candles around the house
• If you are having an indoor party, make sure that you put your pets in a room where they won't be disturbed.
• If you own a cat be careful not to let it outside as this can be a bad time for cats, particularly black cats.
