Flowers and Plants

Spring officially begins this year on March 21 st and after the misery of a long, cold winter, we’re all looking forward to the sparkle and bloom of spring with heightened enthusiasm.

Spring flowers are a great way to add colour and life to your interiors when colour is still lacking outside in the garden. Traditionally, daffodils were the flower of choice, but more modern spring flowers like hyacinths - because of their beautiful, mood-boosting scent - and ranunculus are becoming more popular. Hyacinths are a power flower in a delicate season. They look great massed together in a simple vase and just a few stems can perfume a whole room!

As Mother’s Day is around the corner, why not brighten up your mum’s life with the gorgeous blowsy blooms of a potted hydrangea. Mums will love them as a gift for Mother’s Day - they come in a variety of different types from double flowers to bi-colours and lace-cap varieties. They are very versatile plants and as a treat for yourself you can style them by simply choosing a container that fits your décor. Their flowers will last for 4-6 weeks. They may last into early summer and make it out onto your patio dining table when the warmer weather arrives! We have teamed up with Flowergram.co.uk. and we have a gorgeous bouquet of spring flowers to offer one lucky winner.

Winner of Mother's Day Bouquet

Mary White received a beautiful bouquet of flowers, courtesy of Flowergram.co.uk. Mary was nominated by her daughter Nicky.

My Mum, Mary White, is such a kind person. Despite suffering with poor health for the last few years, she never stops running around for other people! She looks after her neighbour (who will be 100 on 15 April) and another needy neighbour (a gentleman with very poor health). She cooks meals for them, does their errands and shopping and generally mothers them! In addition, she's a great Mum to me and a fabulous Grandma to my four year old son. I've recently set up a business and finances have been a bit stretched. Every week, I get a 'food parcel' to keep things ticking over and any time she sees a bargain that's appropriate to the needs of me or my family, she takes it up on our behalf and won't accept payment until she knows that we have the money available. She also works part-time and acts as Mum to the staff there. She's tried to leave on several occasions, but they'd miss her too much and always manage to talk her out of going.

Life wouldn't be the same without my Mum. She'd really appreciate the bouquet, but would be very embarrassed about what I've said about her!
