The quirky Sixties series The Magic Roundabout (Pathé Distribution, £15.99;two-disc special edition, £22.99) gets a computer-generated revamp in this DVD release,with Robbie Williams providing Dougal the dog’s drawl, and the excellent Bill Nighy voicing for Dylan the rabbit. Maybe the passage of time has blunted my modern edge, but this somewhat bland production sucks the charm and life out of the original. Of course, today’s kids won’t know that and as such it seems to be aimed at the Teletubbies market. So while it may well keep the children occupied for an hour, parents will only maintain concentration long enough to realise there’s no political satire or psychedelic nonsense to keep them amused.
