Pet-Passports keep the kids busy this summer at Pets at Home
A summer holiday activity that keeps the kids busy, out of Mum and Dad's hair AND teaches them how to care for animals - sound too good to be true? Well, this summer, Pets at Home stores across England have got it covered. The store has prepared a six-week fun-packed activity scheme for schoolchildren, starting on Tuesday 24th July, as part of a Pets at Home initiative to promote responsible pet-ownership among children.
Pet-Passports are available on the counter in store now, totally free. Children can collect entertaining stickers by completing puzzles, quizzes and in-store activities. There will be tours of the store and regular activity workshops, covering a wide range of subjects, from rabbit care to conserving wildlife, to looking after your guinea pig or cleaning a fish-tank! There will also be a permanent treasure hunt set up in store where children can follow clues to solve puzzles.
Linda Whiting the Event Manager said, “The Pets at Home Summer Passport scheme for kids is an ideal activity to get children involved in how to care for animals and their pets responsibly in a fun and enjoyable way”.
After completing the scheme children will be awarded with a ‘Cool Summer’ certificate and badge to recognise their efforts and show that they now know how to look after their animals conscientiously.
Linda continued; “The store is really excited about the ‘Cool Summer’ scheme. It’s a perfect base for activities as there is always information on display – which children now have a reason to study! Our store teams are trained to advise on the best way to care for a pet and are happy to talk to people about it. If we teach children at an early age what it means to own a pet, animals in store are more likely to go to the right kind of home.”
Catriona Marshall, a trustee for the Pets at Home Charitable foundation, which supports re-homing charities across the country added:
"The ‘Cool Summer’ scheme ties in with the key messages of the PAH charitable foundation. Pets at Home is always keen to promote responsible animal welfare, for both children and adults, and this is the perfect opportunity to do just that”
The tours will be taking place twice on Tuesdays and the workshops take place twice on Thursdays. The first workshop starts on the Thursday 26th July. The schedule is as follows:
- Week 1: Rabbit workshop
- Week 2: Guinea Pig Care
- Week 3: Fish care
- Week 4: Wildlife Workshop
- Week 5: Wildlife Workshop
