The Mouse Club is an interactive web site, teaching 3 to 7 year olds basic IT skills and mouse control. The general theme of the Mouse Club is to provide a fun, engaging site for young children, with support for both the child and the carer. It provides children with alluring activities and games such as tic tac toe, story tales, playdough making instructions, a maze and a "secret club" they can join to find more fun games.
The content was produced by a team of former teachers who wanted to incorporate enjoyment with learning. Children receive regular free 'Mouseletters' through email, and access to new online activities. Adults receive a regular free newsletter, with ideas and lesson plans along with special offers on products. The site is continually expanding, so watch out for new developments! We hope the Mouse Club will encourage the school/home link and offer parents the chance to become more active in their child's IT education!

www.pre-maturebaby.com - Pregnancy for parents is supposed to be a time of joy. Nine months of watching a tummy grow then the end result a perfectly healthy baby. Sadly to say, in the UK today about 100 babies are born prematurely each day.

My wife had to have our baby delivered by caesarean section at only 28 weeks pregnant. The baby, Kirsty, was born at only 1½ pounds and was given only a 10% chance of survival. Needless to say the months since her birth have been both traumatic and rewarding.

Due to the lack of information available in the UK we have set up a web site about Kirsty, her start in life in a special baby care unit and her life at home on oxygen. The web site was developed to give parents and relatives an insight into 'premi' times. We hope that it also gives them hope, confidence and re-assurance that premature babies are little miracles, and are hardier than what most people think!

www.premature-babies.co.uk - This site is run by Kerri Thomas, the mother of a premature baby. Its aim is to present useful information for parents, expectant parents, friends and relatives of premature babies, particularly in the UK. Through the site Kerri recounts her time in hospital and her experiences to date. The site also includes factual information, summarised from numerous books, contact addresses for support organisations and much, much more.

The Home Reading Initiative, launched by the Scottish Executive in August 2002, encourages parents and carers to share books with their children from a young age.

Children love stories and books and time spent with them in this way is extremely well spent. Not only do children who are familiar with books find learning to read easier, there are also great benefits to be gained by both parent and child in sharing the pleasures of reading.

Every month there will be a selection of recommended books available on the website to help parents, carers and children to establish personal libraries through which to build a love of books and reading.

"I think reading to our children helps them a great deal. Not only to sit and listen like they have to learn in school But also helps in there speech and development and broadens there little minds." Ann

Step Familys Forums

I decided to create this board, as I'm a Birth Mum (BM) and Step Mum (SM) myself. I also have been a Single Parent. I'm a BM to one child who is 5 and two stepchildren who are 6 and 13. I have no children with my husband now and we don't want anymore. This is both our second marriages. I'm a Nurse and work Part time and my husband is an Engineer and works full time. We live in York, North Yorkshire. My Son lives with us and my Skids live approximately 20 miles away. We love all our kids dearly and will guide them the best way we can. I do get on with my Sons BF, but unfortunately being a SM is very trying with the BM. We have been through so much for the last few years that we have tackled most aspects of Parenting. This varies from Parenting, Kids with Learning difficulties, Divorce, Schools, Health, Step Parenting and PAS.

I hope you find this board useful. It's a way to come together and air out those frustrating times in all aspects of parenting.

WellBeing is the fundraising and research arm of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the only national charity funding research into women's health at every stage of life, and that of their babies.

It is hard to imagine today, but as recently as 1964, antenatal diagnostic techniques like ultrasound scans of babies in the womb and fetal heart monitoring did not exist. Nor did IVF treatment, or surgery in the womb, screening for cervical cancer and hormone replacement therapy. Nearly all these advances are as a result of research projects pioneered and funded by WellBeing.

WellBeing publish a leaflet entitled 'Prematurity' that provides information on why premature labour occurs, the common health problems facing a premature baby as well as how to cope with the experience of having a premature baby. It also gives advice on how you can help to care for and communicate with your baby whilst he/she is in the Special Care Baby Unit and when he/she comes home. A list of support groups is also included.

For a free copy of this leaflet send a stamped self-addressed enveloped marked 'Prematurity Leaflet' to the address below. Alternatively the leaflet can be downloaded from their web site.
