This is probably the most common form of child accident. The little adventurers
will climb anything in sight and often misjudge the height and their own ability
and you can be stood right next to them, and they still fall. All the environments
carry a high risk for this one, and I know from personal experience, that you want
to help them, but they don't want you to. So you end up giving them a bit of
independence and "bump" you have a fallen child.
Ways to avoid falls
- securely strap babies and toddlers in their highchairs, car seats, buggies and
always use a five-point harness.
- don't leave your child unattended on a raised surface, such as a bed, changing
table or work-top. Even a tiny newborn can move so never put your child higher
than the floor!
- where ever possible fit safety gates. There are so many good ones on the market
now that fits most gaps, but main places are top and bottom of stairs and obviously
keep the stairs clear of toys, washing and things that you are going to take up
later.
- fit window locks and safety catches to stop them opening more than 10cm (4"). Did you
know that your child can get through a gap as small as this, but will probably get
their head stuck.
- Check the gaps between railings and banisters and board up if necessary
- Move furniture away from windows to prevent them climbing and obtaining easy
access

Anyway Ive entered my son Ashton in the baby photo comp, if anyone would like to take a look - my little baba is Ashton - 5 months!
Never asked for votes before and theres no sob story here - just proud to have such a beautiful son (third son infact!!). If you dont think hes cute then dont vote - I think judges should maybe judge such things as I think the case more often than not is people with lots of friends and family online always win - I dont have any friends or family registered on the sites as they havnt had babies yet, hence me posting here!
Sorry for taking up board space
Thanks for looking anybody
