September

Debbie Bird

Well welcome to September. I know that I have found myself suddenly back into a regime of watching the clock and rushing my children to school.

However, I love September, it seems to bring some order back into my life after having my summer holiday, slapping on sun cream to moaning children and lot's of ad hoc activities.

This is the first month I have written to you on this site and I would like to introduce a little of myself to you.

My name is Debbie Bird and I have been working on the site for over 7 months now. I have two children, James who is 6 years old and Charlotte who is nearly 4.

I have experienced a variety of issues becoming a parent, but by no means consider myself an expert. I found myself at 27 years old trying to conceive. When this didn't happen naturally I started looking at other ways to achieve this.

I went through 5 years of IVF treatment, lot's of investigative procedures and horrible drug taking. The emotions of those 5 years have been recorded in my diaries and when I find myself looking back over those days it brings back all the anxiety, sad and eventually happy times.

Now with my children in the school system, Chairperson for 3 years of my children's pre-school, and a School Governor, I find myself working on this fantastic site.

Already this month I have been involved in the development of new pages for the site, which I love. Lot's of you provide fantastic comments for the site and I hope to start using these where we can.

At the beginning of the month I was asked to appear on Central ITV news, as a parent with a view on the issue of young men and women in their 20's not considering the impact of drinking alchohol, recreational drugs and poor diet. The new research had highlighted the need for our young people to consider their actions to avoid problems later in life

This was a great experience, and highlighted up an issue that I personally find very interesting.

We have 2 competitions this month worth about £160, including Win an Up ’n Down highchair from Hauck Fun For Kids. Why not try your luck?

HELP!!!

Our 14 month old son has, for the last 3 weeks, woke during the night crying. Since then we are only getting about 2 hours sleep a night and we are absolutely exhausted.(his cot is our room and previous to this he was a great sleeper.) The only thing that settles him is letting him sleep with us . I know this can be dangerous and we dont actually get any sleep as we are so scared that we will suffocate him. On a health vistors advice, we tried controlled crying which was very difficult and upsetting for us all. Even after 3-4 hours of crying he still wouldnt settle and it would wake our other 2 older children. Having spoken to a different H.V since, they have suggested that we wont solve the matter unless our son is sleeping in another room away from us. we only have a 3 bedroom house so he will have to share a room with his 12 year old brother. Does anyone have any views if this may work?
