Parents to Pay
Parents could be charged up to £5,000 for the wrong behaviour of their children. The new power, from 20th July, applies to children under 10 who are too young to prosecute. The courts have been unable to make compensation orders against under 10 year olds, so it is being introduced experimentally in ten cities and counties. After a year the Government will assess its effectiveness and decide whether to extend it. What do you think about this, our children cost us a lot of money already. Are we going to have to pay for behaviour as well? or do you think that this punishment will work and bring those parents that neglect to control their children back in line?. Read about Parents Pay Share your story with us and we will publish it on this page Your Comments and ViewsI'm surprised this wasn't already law. I expect to pay up when my children break small things, although it is nice if an understanding person (e.g. libarian with chewed book) lets you off. As for paying 'for their behaviour', I think parents are responsible for their children, and that this is only just. Alison This is normal on the continent and may prove a success here too when people (children) realise that they can't get away with small things that will consequently lead to bigger things being comitted. Well done, on the other ahand, it will give insurance companies another insurance to offer us and to get money out of us too. Karin |
