Below are some of the latest news issues that I have found and created links for Next Generations Of CampaignersIt is important for young people today to be involved in making the decisions that affect not only their own lives, but the lives of their family, friends and communities. It is also important that when they accept the challenge, and take those decisions, they be recognised and applauded. The Spotlight Awards are a national initiative to recognise, encourage and reward young people who have taken action to change, create or improve something they consider important in their school, club or community. The Awards are for ordinary teenagers between 11 and 18 years old, who live in the UK and have campaigned for something they believe in. To apply, or to nominate someone you believe deserves to win one of five £1,000 prizes, visit: www.commonpurpose.org.uk Last year's Awards involved more than 2,500 young people across the UK and covered topics as diverse as a campaign to raise awareness of the challenges young deaf people face and encourage more interaction between deaf and hearing people, and an initiative which saw older students acting as volunteer monitors on school bus routes to prevent bullying and bad behaviour. Judges, including TV presenter Ben Shepherd and human rights campaigner Doreen Lawrence, will be looking to get the parents, grandparents, teachers and friends to nominate those who deserve to be in the spotlight. Those whose actions prove that young people are less selfish and more community spirited than many people give them credit for. Linsey Birghall, from Common Purpose joins us live online on Tuesday 24th January at 16:00 to discuss why someone you know may deserve to be in the spotlight.
