Staying Up Late
Ofsted Chief Inspector, Maurice Smith, has raised concerns and is asking parents to make sure that their children are not too tired for school after staying up late to watch television. You as parents are being told that you have a duty to make sure pupils turn up for class feeling alert and ready to learn. Is it our parental responsibility to prepare our children for going to school and working hard?. Apparently we are very good at providing, iPods, MP3 players and PSP's but find it hard to produce a pen!. Let us know how your school deals with tiredness and is Ofsted using parents as a scapegoat for inspection's that bring out these types of figures? Your Views and CommentsMy 4 year old daughter is an owl and often wants to stay up later. However, she also has ezcema which is very itchy at night. So even if we send her to bed on time (in bed by about 7.45pm) she might be awake in the middle of the night for an hour or so scratching. I am worried that she will find it hard to concentrate when she starts school in September and that the teachers will think we let her stay up all hours! Rosalind Hi, I do think it is a parents responsibility to ensure their children go to bed at a reasonable time, not just because of school but due to them getting enough sleep. If you are a responsible parent, you should want your child to do well at school and in their exams to help them to what they want to do in later life. Anita |
