Mums Lie about Food
I have just read a very amusing and easy to read article about the pressure that mums are under to feed their children the right food, and if we don't we lie about it. A survey just out underlines the negative consequences of this. It turns out that a staggering 76 per cent of mothers (out of a sample of 1,000) lie about what they feed their children because they are worried that their culinary efforts are not up to scratch. It starts at the very beginning of motherhood, breastfeeding. Are you a purest, only giving your baby breastmilk, or do you mix it with formula and lie to everyone who asks? I remember feeling extremely pressured to breastfeed, and I wanted to, but it was not easy. Then came weaning and the need to show the world that I could cook, puree and freeze a wide range of vegetables for my baby. James was easy he ate what I gave him, but Charlotte, well she knew she could control what went in her little mouth and boy did she let me know it. Feeding your children has become a competitive battle ground for mums and one that the officials, with their professional advice, do not help. Where has common sense gone and individuality, who knows your baby better than YOU. Read the story in full, at Timesonline Share your story with us and we will publish it on this page |
