Mar - In Touch

March 2008

Dear Members

Mother's Day is just upon us again. This special day is meant to give us "mums" the day off and be pampered. I am certain that will not happen in my house, but the idea sounds fab.

The picture is of my Mum who is very special and also my best friend, and I wish and hope that history will repeat itself to become my own daughter's view of me.

A friend and I were chatting about Mother's Day and both owned up to manipulating the presents - a bit! In order to avoid getting the same gift each year, we have both made specific requests for "what we want". I know that in my house the children love going out to get my gift and card and this is a special time for them, but without some guidance they have to date repeated the gifts they have bought for the last 5 years. My two always buy a necklace and ear-rings, which is fabulous, but then I have the dilemma of having to wear the new ones and take off the ones they bought last year - aaargh!!

So this year to keep the same jewellery on I have suggested some hanging baskets for my garden, with spring fast and for me eagerly approaching I will thoroughly enjoy planting them up and lovingly watering them through the summer. When I sit in my garden looking at them every day it will make Mother's Day last a long time.

This Mother's Day will be extra special as my niece will be 18 - I cannot believe where those years have gone but we will be having an extra special day this year as we enjoy a family party to celebrate.

There are many exciting things happening in March, some of which are World Book Day, International Women's Day, Sport Relief, No Smoking Day and EASTER!. With Easter early this year, it has completely thrown me out, especially with the school holidays not falling either side of it.

Until next month my very best wishes,

Editor

Sleepless nights
HELP!!!

Our 14 month old son has, for the last 3 weeks, woke during the night crying. Since then we are only getting about 2 hours sleep a night and we are absolutely exhausted.(his cot is our room and previous to this he was a great sleeper.) The only thing that settles him is letting him sleep with us . I know this can be dangerous and we dont actually get any sleep as we are so scared that we will suffocate him. On a health vistors advice, we tried controlled crying which was very difficult and upsetting for us all. Even after 3-4 hours of crying he still wouldnt settle and it would wake our other 2 older children. Having spoken to a different H.V since, they have suggested that we wont solve the matter unless our son is sleeping in another room away from us. we only have a 3 bedroom house so he will have to share a room with his 12 year old brother. Does anyone have any views if this may work?
