Stem Cells

When you read all the literature on this subject, it becomes clear WHY you should store stem cells.

These cells are pretty amazing, but you only get this one chance to collect and store them for your baby's future.

I have tried to find a word that fits this collection and storage best, and have read "insurance", "living health insurance", "building blocks", "security". None I feel really sum up the "potential" that these cells have. It is a financial decision as well as moral, and for some people this collection with not sit comfortably, but as science and technology progress, we are being faced with these dilemmas. I can only relate this to IVF treatment, that was once considered to be wrong and not ethical, but if it had not been done I would personally not have my two lovely children.

As you investigate this process further you will see that there is limited time to collect these cells. There are some opportunities of collecting stem cells later from young children and adults but this is by collecting bone marrow. That process requires local anaesthetic and is usually taken from the hip. The storage time for this collection is around 10 years. Compared to a totally non-invasive collection at birth and using stem cells that would normally be thrown away, I know which one I would prefer.
