I have just read all of your stories about spotting during pregnancy; and I wanted to share with you a good spotting story (as many of them turn out to be!). With my first pregnancy, I began to spot at 9 weeks, which continued for several weeks. I of course was extremely concerned and had a couple of ultra scabs to ensure that the baby was still fine - and she was. Sometimes we just bleed because of minor reasons unrelated to the health of the baby. I did have a small amount of spotting around 20 weeks too - just old blood from a small clot make its way out of my body. I gave birth to Sofia in 2004 and she was a beautiful strong baby right from the start. I am now 8 weeks with my second, and the spotting has started again. Although I am concerned, I am being positive about the situation this time; I learnt last time that worrying is not going to help myself or my baby. So chins up girls!!

I lost my first pregnancy after 8 weeks in May 2005 after spotting then eventually heavy red bleeding & clots. I had a scan at about 6 weeks when the spotting began but they could only see the sac. I am now almost 6 weeks gone and just this morning noticed a light pinkish brown discharge when wiping myself. It is very light however this is how it began last time. What a stressful journey early pregnancy can be. Fingers crossed.

I am 7 wk 6dys pregnant and have been bleeding for about a week. It started with brown discharge and went on to become red blood. I did experience pain in my abdomen for sometime but now it is gone. I feel weak and dizzy, with sore breasts. I don't know what to expect. Today I shall get my Hcg test results. This is my first pregnancy, so I am very scared.. GOD help me! - Reena

Last year I miscarried at 6 weeks and few months later I had a delayed miscarriage. I had a feeling that something was wrong, not so much because of the brown spotting I had but because I felt really ill. I am now 10 weeks pregnant and getting the same spotting however I feel fine (apart from nausea and fatigue) and I have had several scans which show that the baby is fine. All pregnancies are different and bleeding is not necessarily a sign that something is wrong. My advice is that if you are at all worried, don't delay, go to your Doctor / Early Pregnancy Unit for a scan. This will hopefully help to put your mind and rest. - Lorraine

I'm 17 weeks 6 days pregnant. This is my fourth pregnancy. Around 13 weeks I started bleeding with very bad abdominal pain and lower back pain. I had a miscarriage in 2000 so I thought it was happening again. I went to the emergency room and was told the baby was fine. I was put on bed rest for 20 days. After 2 days of work, at around 15 weeks, I started bleeding again. I was still very afraid. I went to the emergency room again, the cervix was closed and the ultrasound showed the baby was fine. 3 days later I saw my obgyn. I heard the baby's heart beat again through the doppler. However I was placed on bedrest for another 2 weeks. During my rest at home, I began to have lower abdominal pain and back pain with spotting. I am so concerned. I hope everything is still ok. Just tonight when I went to the restroom, I noticed a brownish discharge only when I wipe. I'm worried again because my next scan isn't until Jan 04 and my next appointment isn't until Jan. 17. I just hate to keep running to the ER but I'm trying to be positive. It's just so hard because every time I use the bathroom I'm so concerned about what I will see. This site has really comforted me. Good luck to all and wish me luck.- Debra

I am so glad I found this site its helped put my mind a little more at rest. I'm 14.5wks and had a bleed at 11wks and a lost a large clot at 13wks I had scans after both and was told the baby, my first, is fine. I'm still having spotting but can't help but worry. Numerous people including hospital staff have told me its quite common to have bleeds throughout their pregnancy and go on to have a perfectly healthy baby. But its nice to hear other peoples stories. - Sally

I'm currently 5 weeks pregnant I did 2 home pregnancy tests and they both said positive.. Then we went to the doctors and they did one and it said positive. Well last night I started to feel cramping like my period and I started to spot a little bit no heavy blood yet. Is this normal or suppose to happen? - Jamie

Does anyone else seem to think we all put these fears into our heads after reading all these comments? I to have had problems, one not knowing 100% if I am pregnant but having all symptoms, only to have gone to the bathroom and for the thousand-th time looked after wiping waiting to see a period to tell me I am not. Anyway I did just that yesterday and saw a light pink color mixed in with discharge which I have been having for a while (the discharge not the pink show). My big problem is I have VERY VERY irregular cycles and don't know what to think, don't want to run to the doctor every time and spend that wonderful $30.00 co-pay. I am in the same SHIP and I say that because a boat just isn't big enough with all of us that have all these same symptoms and problems. I did do something different before doing to the bathroom yesterday and that was lie flat on my stomach to fix the tree skirt under my tree.(kinda felt weird to lie on my stomach when I did). Don't know if that could play a factor in the reason for the pink show in the discharge or not. Oh well, I guess like everyone else I will be waiting and wondering.. Good luck to all...

I have been trying for 2 yrs, finally get pregnant thru IVF, 8th week, started to bleed heavily, went to hospital, after 5 hrs told me that everything was ok, but that they heard 2 heartbeats. I was shocked & happy. I am still beeding, but not much; its brown now, at first, it was fresh blood, thats when I started to go crazy, because it was so emotional. after 1 wk later, I go to the doctor and he says he hears 1 good heartbeat and the other one is very faint, now my other baby is fighting to make it, but I still have hope & I will not give up! I am praying everyday that my 2nd baby makes it as well, that would be a great miracle. please keep us in your prayers!

I am 7+ weeks, started bleeding/spotting last week, Called the doctors and the hospital and have just been told could be the beginning of a miscarriage and I just have to wait and see! Not very reassuring! luckily have a scan on 16th. The spotting is very small and brown like the end of a period, told this could happen if my period is due, which it is not. very worried, have 2 11 month girls who I had no spotting with at all, but as they are so young find it hard to 'rest' as doctors say. Have been told by friends that if I was going to miscarry they thought it would of happened by now, or if the baby has 'died' I'd feel very sick. Apart from weeing all the time have no other pregnancy symptoms. Has anybody got any advice for me? - Tara

I had blood loss on friday night, went straight to maternity hospital. Got checked out she found the heart beat, checked the cervix which was still closed but said there was still debris there. The following morning I had a scan to confirm that all was well but I'm still terrified. I am 18 weeks pregnant afraid to move in case it happens again. They gave me no reason for the bleed just said that it sometimes happens. - Jo

I had light spotting at 5 weeks and it turned out that I was carrying twins but one was living and one was not. Now at 17 weeks I just experienced light bleeding again. I checked with ultrasound and the baby, thank God, is fine. But the second sac is still there. I was told to rest a week. It could be the sac disintegrating or it could be problem with the placenta. It is really important to know that heavy bleeding in a mid-late pregnancy could signal a disconnecting of the placenta. So, as hard as it is, is is very important to rest. Good luck all! - Saskia

I only found out I was pregnant this week. By the scan I am 8 weeks pregnant carrying a feotus with a healthy heartbeat. My cycle is very irregular so I hadn't even noticed but it turns out that I've been bleeding on and off for the last two months, mostly dark red/ brown blood and so far I have a perfectly healthy pregnancy. The doctor says it was probably implantation bleeding and old blood. The bleeding has stopped for 5 days now but I can't wait till the 12 week scan, I'll be much happier. - Elaina

I am 12 weeks pregnant and have had spotting on and off for the last 6 weeks. A couple of days ago I had cramping for about 10 minutes and have been bleeding lightly since. I am going for a scan tommorrow but am terrified as to what the results might be. - Pam

I will be 7 weeks tomorrow hopefully. I've been bleeding since 5 weeks 3 days. I say hopefully because I didn't go back to the doctor since my first visit. I called my doctor when the bleeding started and he said that I was. Not to mention I just had a miscarriage previously at 5 weeks and then when the bleeding started again I was sure to miscarry again. So I never went back for a follow up w/the hcg test. Well, Monday I see my doctor to tell me what's up. I took a pregnancy test today because my breast/nipples have been so sore, I began to wonder "am I still pregnant after all this bleeding". The test was a big positive. I'm confused. My bleeding is not that bad and with no cramps. I did have 2 clots in the beginning, but its been 11 days. I don't know. I didn't relax or anything to calm the bleeding I was just letting nature takes its course. And I'm still pregnant. It sounds crazy and confusing to me and my husband. I will give you an update on Mon. - Tanya

I am 7+1 and I started having v.light spotting 2 days ago. Only on toilet paper so far but light pink in colour not brown. Have been worried sick, but am trying to keep a sensible head and tell myself that it is just breakthrough bleeding. Fingers crossed... - Jenny

Hi to everybody! I am 23yrs married. During my 7th week of pregnancy I had a bleeding, once I saw a brown ....immediately I went to the doctor and had an ultra sound scan. They said baby is fine and heart beat is fine. After returning home....I had pain in abdominal area and the next morning I had a heavy bleed with big clots and I lost my pregnancy. Even though this is my first pregnancy. I am disappointed. Doctor did DNC for me.

At five weeks I noticed some dark brown blood when I wiped. It went away that hour and a week has passed with nothing since then. Should I go see the doctor? - Ana

I am 6w2d pregnant today with my first. I began spotting at 17dpo and have continued up until now (two weeks) with no end in sight yet. It started out red and brown off and on and has gradually gotten so that I'm spotting more often than not and its almost always red. However, it is still definately spotting, not period-like bleeding. It's always been just blood, not clots or tissue. - Morgan

I have been for a scan today and they say I'm roughly 5-6 weeks pregnant although the bit they have seen on the scan say it is too early to definately say its a baby. I have had spotting for approx 5-6 days but only when wiping myself either a dull red or brown. However since coming back from the scan I have had bad bleeding like a period. Phoned doctor who says just relax and wait a week to have another scan. Has anyone else experienced this please help me and my partner are a wreck - Michaela

I am 14 weeks and had a bleed on Sunday with spotting the next day. Had a scan yesterday which showed baby is fine and stopped bleeding. However, today I've just passed a load of brown discharge and am panicking slightly, although am very reassured by so many messages saying similar experiences. Doctors/midwives seem completely unconcerned - I suppose I could look at that positively that theres's nothing to be concerned about - but it's hard! - Sue

I miscarried in March 2005, I am now 8 weeks pregnant. I have had some spotting on & off. I still have symptoms. Could this possibly be another miscarriage? I have no cramps or any pains. I am having my first ultrasound tomorrow. Is spotting on/off normal at all? - Melissa

HELP!!!

Our 14 month old son has, for the last 3 weeks, woke during the night crying. Since then we are only getting about 2 hours sleep a night and we are absolutely exhausted.(his cot is our room and previous to this he was a great sleeper.) The only thing that settles him is letting him sleep with us . I know this can be dangerous and we dont actually get any sleep as we are so scared that we will suffocate him. On a health vistors advice, we tried controlled crying which was very difficult and upsetting for us all. Even after 3-4 hours of crying he still wouldnt settle and it would wake our other 2 older children. Having spoken to a different H.V since, they have suggested that we wont solve the matter unless our son is sleeping in another room away from us. we only have a 3 bedroom house so he will have to share a room with his 12 year old brother. Does anyone have any views if this may work?
