Anita's Babies - 0405

Its week 18 and there's not too much to report, I was so disappointed with my midwife appointment last week that I contacted a few members on the Tamba website to see if they had encountered the same problems with the Downs Testing. It turned out that some of them were also not offered the blood test, but had the nuchal scan which they had to pay for privately, and this needed to be done by week 18 so it looks like we were a little late on that. I was pretty annoyed that this information wasn't mentioned to us by the midwife. A few of our friends suggested putting in a complaint, but at the minute I really don't want to rock the boat and have an even worse service from the midwife than we have already got. I will discuss this in more detail with the consultant / my own midwife when I eventually get to see her.

My parents are moving house and I needed to clear some of my old things which are still in the loft at my mums. So Tuesday and Wednesday my mum helped me sort through my things and rebox them - their going to keep them at the new house for me until we can move them, so thankfully they will stay there for another year.

We've been watching most of the World Cup games and of course England is no exception, we have always gone to the pub to watch England in tournaments and although I did feel really worn out on Tuesday, I did go along to watch it. Unfortunately, there were no seats, so I ended up standing for about 4 hours and bloated on diet coke, so by the time I got home I was really worn out and I had a few pains around my stomach area. I was worried, because I thought I had done too much that day and I should have rested.

I do feel that some midwifes are not as caring or thoughtful as you thought they would be and the service that they are providing certainly has proved good for me either with Katie's pregnancy or the twins. I thought the first time round that because I found out so late, I had missed a lot and therefore didn't get seen as much as I should have done, but this time I thought it would be different, but the service has been just as bad.

By Thursday evening the pain wasn't giving up, I couldn't lie on my left hand side, and I know lying on your left hand side was supposed to be better as it helps supply oxygen and blood to the baby. Every time I lay on my left hand side it caused more pain, I couldn't lie on my right hand side as it pulled and lying on my back wasn't much better.

So Friday morning I contacted the midwife and she suggested that I contact the midwife triage at the hospital. They felt that I needed to go back to my midwife or consult my doctor as it was only them that could refer me to the hospital.

I eventually got an appointment at the doctors, he examined my stomach and said that all felt fine, which was a relief. He sent me for a urine sample to check that there was no water infection. He also asked me to lie down and then sit up and checked my back, he hit the spot exactly where the problem was and felt that my problem was due to a muscle problem in my back. He suggested that I take up some gentle exercise and also to take up swimming as this would help overall and with the problem in my back. I don't know what he did on Friday, but Friday night was the best night sleep I had had in ages.

This week I have also felt the babies move quite a bit - or at least I think so. You can't actually see them or feel them if you place your hands on my stomach, but I can feel lots of movements inside, which is really nice. I am on a countdown now to see my beautiful little bundles on the screen.

Everyone keeps asking us if we are going to ask what sex they are, my dad thinks we should and I see his point about the practicality of things, but Paul really doesn't want to, he wants to have the surprise when they are born. Me - I don't know what to do, I want to have the surprise when they are born, but feel it may be easier to find out and buy a couple of bits for when they arrive. I might ask when I go in and not tell Paul, but I don't want to slip up and tell him by accident. So I still haven't decided what to do on that one.

I am starting to show really well now and I will post a picture next week so you can see how I have grown, and its really weird everyone wants to have a feel of my bump - even Paul's mates and the really weird thing is people just have a feel - they don't ask, they just do it. I know there intentions are good and they think its great news, but sometimes I wish they would ask first.

Well we're off to watch the England match tomorrow - so come on England. Even my daughter Katie is cheering for Stevie Gerrard. This will be our last year where we watch the tournament in the pub and I can't believe I'm drinking soft drinks. I wouldn't say that I am someone who goes out religously and drinks every weekend, but I do like to have a drink when I do go out and I am missing it, but at the end of the day by babies health comes before anything. Katie will be older and hopefully enjoy watching the England games with us in the future and so it will be barbies for us on the England games.

See you all next week x

Anita

Sleepless nights
HELP!!!

Our 14 month old son has, for the last 3 weeks, woke during the night crying. Since then we are only getting about 2 hours sleep a night and we are absolutely exhausted.(his cot is our room and previous to this he was a great sleeper.) The only thing that settles him is letting him sleep with us . I know this can be dangerous and we dont actually get any sleep as we are so scared that we will suffocate him. On a health vistors advice, we tried controlled crying which was very difficult and upsetting for us all. Even after 3-4 hours of crying he still wouldnt settle and it would wake our other 2 older children. Having spoken to a different H.V since, they have suggested that we wont solve the matter unless our son is sleeping in another room away from us. we only have a 3 bedroom house so he will have to share a room with his 12 year old brother. Does anyone have any views if this may work?
